Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH), Patna is one of the premier medical institutions in Bihar, established with the vision to provide quality medical education and healthcare services to the people of Bihar and neighboring states.
Nalanda Medical College & Hospital (NMCH), Patna, was founded in 1970 through the visionary leadership of distinguished medical professionals – Dr. Vijay Narayan Singh (M.S., F.R.C.S), Dr. Madhusudan Das (M.R.C.H), and Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha (M.S., F.R.C.S)—in collaboration with Shri Krishna Kant Singh, the then Education Minister of Bihar. The institution was established with the mission to produce skilled, compassionate, and service-driven medical professionals to meet the growing healthcare needs of society.
Academic operations commenced on 2nd April 1970 under the guidance of the founding Principal, Dr. Shailendra Kumar Sinha. Initially, the college admitted 150 students annually. In 1978, the Government of Bihar took over the institution, and it was recognized by the Medical Council of India (now NMC). Post-takeover, the student intake was revised and streamlined through competitive examinations at both state and national levels.
Over the past five decades, NMCH has evolved significantly in terms of academic excellence, infrastructure, and patient care services. Alumni of the institution are actively serving in prestigious medical institutions across India and abroad.
The college campus is strategically located on Old Bypass Road, Kankarbagh, Patna. The main academic block houses the pre-clinical and para-clinical departments such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Community Medicine (PSM), Forensic Medicine (FMT), Pharmacology and Pathlogy.
NMCH also provides comprehensive facilities with four hostels, each in the college campus and hospital campus(two for boys and two for girls at each location),All equipped with modern amenities, mess services, and round-the-clock security.
